Tragic Loss and Heroism

Allentown experienced a tragic loss this week as well as one of the most heroic acts of self sacrifice.

The Santiago family lost a beloved son and uncle during a three alarm fire earlier this week in Allentown. They will be missed by family, friends, and neighbors. As tragic as this was, fire fighters, police officers, and neighbors witnessed a tremendous act of courage and love when Sara's other son protected and lowered his young sisters to police and bystanders while being burned by the fire.

After his sisters were safe he was forced to jump and suffered severe injuries including a third degree burn on his back which he sustained while protecting his sisters. This young man's selfless act of bravery and courage deserves the respect of all.

Today is great day in Pennsylvania for First Responders.

State Representative Schlossberg' s House Bill (H.B)1459 "First Responder Post Traumatic Stress Injury (PTSI) Support, passed and will establish a statewide support system for first responders suffering from PTSI.

H.B. 1459 is a great first step in curbing the pandemic of first responder suicide. Now we need to pass H.B. 432 to complete the support system. 432 will provide compensation for treatment and lost time at work. Currently all workers in PA. are covered for PTSI under Workman's Comp with the exception of First Responders.

As both a 911 dispatcher and the wife of a career firefighter this is great news for all of us!

Well done and Thanks for the lead on this Mike Schlossberg..... you recognize the cost it takes on us

Would this cover volunteer firefighters as well?

Good job Mike. Thank you

Keep up the great job

Great news!!!

Just shy of a decade. And I’m sure it’s because of budget or people on city council who have never even seen the inside of a fire truck making decisions 🀦🏻‍♂️

Thank you for working on this.

Strong work brothers
